Time off from Santa for Aviemore's Saturday run!
Aviemore enjoyed a "fantastic" pre-Christmas Parkrun yesterday (Saturday, December 21), with some of Santa's elves give some time off to join in before Tuesday's mad dash around the globe.
As well as many locals, the 134th run welcomed visitors from Edinburgh, North Berwick, Peterborough, Manchester, London and even New Zealand.
"All enjoyed the run with fabulous views of the snowy Cairngorms on their return leg," said Shirley Lynch.
"We think we have the most scenic Parkrun in Britain and our visitors agreed!"
They're now planning a special New Year's Day Parkrun.
"It's a good way to welcome in 2020 and to start those new year health and fitness resolutions good and early with either a good run or a bracing walk.
"We are starting a bit later, at 11am with the run brief at 10.45. If participants don't fancy doing the 5k, we are looking for volunteers!
"No previous experience needed. If anyhone's interested, they should contact our website https://www.parkrun.org.uk/aviemore/ or email us at aviemore@parkrun.com."
Parkrun will be on again this Saturday (28) as usual, starting at 9.30 – but runners will have to be there 15 mins early for their briefing.
"Again we are looking for volunteers, please!"
On Saturday's 134th event, 58 people ran, jogged or walked the course, with15 first timers and six new personal bests.
Representatives of 11 different clubs took part.
The event was made possible by 10 volunteers: Christopher Morris, Pete Wright, Shirley Lynch, Martin Wares, janice Cargill, Claire Howie, Bill Dewitt, Iona Taylor, Susan Smith and Sue Oxley.
As ever, full results and a complete event history can be found on the Aviemore parkrun Results Page.
