Brigades from across the strath and beyond fought in vain to save an Aviemore house in the small hours of this morning.

Crews from Aviemore, Kingussie, Grantown, Inverness and Nairn were despached to Dalnabay after the alarm went up at 2.07am.

By then the fire had really taken hold in the building which, it is believed, was unoccupied at the time.

Police Scotland could only refer the Strathy to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, who confirmed there had been no casualties.

It is understood that all the firefighters could do was stand outside the building and play water into it.

The appliances remained at the scene until the 'stop' call came from Fire HQ in Dundee at 5.05am.

More on this as the facts become known.
