Reports of two controlled explosions by bomb squad in Grantown
There are reports of two controlled explosions having been carried out by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal squad in a Grantown residential street.
Police confirmed that there was on-going incident but said they could not comment further at this time.
It is understood that mortars were found next to a horses field but this has yet to be officially confirmed.
According to several local residents, the first loud bang was heard in the Castle Road area at about 8.30pm followed by a second bang around 15 minutes later.
A contact told the Strathy: "The Bomb Disposal Squad just carried out two controlled explosions in the Castle Road area of Grantown.
"Two really big bangs were heard across the town."
A Police Scotland said: "EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) were called to an incident but we can not provide an update on this as we are awaiting further details from the location. However, we can confirm they have been called for an incident."
The police were still unable to update the Strathy by 11.10pm but one local resident confessed to her disappointment at her own lack of information regarding the incident.
"The mortars were found next to my horses field," said Sue Fraser.
"The police promised to phone me as soon as they knew what was happening so I could be with horses.
"I saw the bomb disposal squad arrive but thought I would wait for phone call rather than getting in the way.
"No phone call. I heard explosion from my house.
"I have always supported our police but feel let down and will not trust them in future."
