Brave Dave's 'worst pain...'
PARALYMPIAN golf medallist David Smith's epic fight against a spinal tumour goes on with a vengeance.
But clearly there is nothing wrong with his spirit.
There had been some concerns after the Aviemore athlete had not posted several days after his second operation last Thursday.
But then he broke the silence to his followers with the message: "What a week!" he posted on Monday.
"Second surgery. The nurse asked 'David who is your next of kin?' and I told her 'Mickey Mouse, from Disneyland'.
"The drugs have certainly taken hold..."
There was mixed news from the 40-year-old.
"Second surgery went very and not lost any more function," he revealed. "But experienced a level of pain I had never come close with before.
"I felt great after day one, then at a point during day two I got a sharp pain in my head.
"What followed was possibly the most pain I have ever felt.
"I could hardly open my eyes for two days the pain was so intense. I won't lie – at one point I remember saying if I was to die right now it might be easier than trying to manage this pain.
"But we managed to get control of my pain which felt incredible."
The London 2012 Paralympian rowing champion has undergone many hours of surgery in his battle with cancer and thousands more returning to fitness.
It cost him a place at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016 and he had just returned to cycling for GB when the latest illness struck.
He is being treated by Professor David Choi, consultant neurosurgeon at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London.
