Vital backing to upgrade popular charity bookshop in Badenoch
The award-winning social enterprise Caberfeidh Horizons in Kingussie has received funding from the Rural and Islands Communities Ideas into Action fund to upgrade its popular 'first class second hand books' shop on the High Street.
The cash, provided by the RICA which is Scottish Government backed and managed by Inspiring Scotland, will pay for the charity to upgrade the insulation and windows, making the outlet a more flexible space at all times of the year and cutting back on rising utility bills.
"Part of the funding is for initiatives that will help local people in Badenoch keep warm, particularly through this long, cold time of year," said Caberfeidh's general manager Helen Armour.
"Also, we are continuing our successful Cosy Bag project. The bags contain a number of items including a hot food flask, hot water bottle, fleece blanket, hat, socks, scarf and gloves etc.
"They're not only for the elderly – this week our trainee group were at Kingussie High School delivering rucksacks full of warming items to young carers.
"We want to make the Cosy Bags easily accessible throughout Badenoch to anyone who would benefit from a little bit of extra warmth so if anyone knows someone who would benefit from one, will they please come into the Caberfeidh Community Hub or call us on 01540 662846."
New helpers and volunteers are always welcome at the charity, which is holding its AGM next Tuesday (14) at 7pm in Kingussie's Iona Gallery on Spey Street.
