Boom in Highlands in kittens and cats needing loving homes
The Scottish SPCA's Highlands and Islands Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre has been inundated with abandoned, unwanted and neglected cats and kittens and the charity needs to find good homes for them all.
Staff at the Inverness-based centre are working tirelessly to care for 28 cats and kittens, 15 of which are ready and waiting for their new owners.
Centre manager Elaine Floyd said: "We've seen a big increase in the number of pregnant females coming into our care lately so one cat can soon become four or five and this in turn means that our cattery spaces become occupied on a long-term basis.
"We also have several cats who are undergoing veterinary treatment at the moment but once they're fully recovered they'll all be looking for good new homes.
"It's important that we find loving owners for the cats and kittens who are ready to be rehomed or reserved as this frees up much-needed space for the constant stream of new arrivals.
"In August we cared for 62 cats in total and although we have rehomed many of those animals our cattery is rapidly filling up again. There seems to be no end to the number of cats needing our help.
"All of our residents deserve a second chance at happiness and we would encourage anyone thinking about taking on a new cat or kitten to give us a call or visit our centre to meet some of our fabulous felines all waiting for their forever homes."
If you can offer a cat or kitten a home please call the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999 and ask to be connected to the Inverness Centre.
