Bomb scare man case heard in Inverness court

A man who called Lifescan Scotland and told them there was a bomb at a factory in Inverness has had sentence deferred.

Rodney Keniston, (47), claimed the bomb was in a trailer at the company’s Seafield Road premises.

Keniston, of Castle Heather Drive, in the city, was not present at Inverness Sheriff Court.

But his solicitor Diane McFarlane, who tendered the plea, said although Keniston had no schedule of previous convictions, given the unusual nature of the charge she thought it likely the court would be seeking background reports.

Keniston admitted on September 5 at Lifescan Scotland, 50 Seafield Road or at his home at Castle Heather Drive sending a text message to an internal phone number at Lifescan with information to another person with the intention of inducing them to believe that a bomb or other thing liable to explode or ignite was present within a trailer in the service yard at Lifescan’s premises in Seafield Road.

Sheriff Ian Abercrombie deferred sentence until December 29 for community justice social work reports.
