Biggest vaccination clinic yet in Badenoch and Strathspey is set up
Grantown Health Centre is gearing up to provide the biggest vaccination clinic in Badenoch and Strathspey to date.
Around 1200 people aged 65 and over and vulnerable people are to receive their jabs as the immunisation programme is ramped up.
The clinic is set for High Life Highland's Craig MacLean Sports Centre again, in early February.
Kathy Cockman, executive manager at Grantown Medical Practice, said: "Our next Covid vaccination clinic will be across two days, on Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th February.
"We will be doing all our clinically vulnerable patients and people aged 65 and over which is approximately 1200 people in total.
"Letters with appointment times should be with them at the beginning of the week."
The vaccination programme is progressing 'really well' at Kingussie and Gergask medical practices.
Christian Aitken, practice manager at Kingussie reported that by yesterday 95 per cent of local over-80s had received their Covid vaccinations.
He said they had all been totally supportive of the vaccine.
Currently the figure for 75-79 age group is at 60 per cent with the next round of vaccination to take place next Wednesday at the town's Badenoch Centre.
Mr Aitken said: "We're very fortunate to have such a good facility in the town and the staff there are very helpful indeed.
"People are joining in in very healthy numbers and next Wednesday we expect to complete another 250 vaccinations.
"On these days whatever is left over is used at the practices privately on Thursdays and Fridays.
"The message is clearly getting across and there have been no problems.
"On Wednesday week at the Badenoch Centre, we will continue with another day for the 70-79 age group and, following governmental guidelines all the time, we expect to have the Wednesday after that dedicated to those in Badenoch who are shielding.
A spokesman at Aviemore Medical Practice said they had clinics planned for coming weeks but not yet on the scale of the February 9-10 sessions in Grantown.
