Beehive yourselves at Aviemore this weekend!
Badenoch and Strathspey will do its bit for the bee crisis this weekend.
The strath’s beekeepers association is staging a starter day course at Aviemore on Sunday.
Sponsored by the Lottery Fund the course is open to all who book for £12 but space will be limited.
It will start at 1.30pm at the association’s apiary, which is accessible by the Fishermans Gate at Dalfaber.
As the association’s Jennifer Lobban explained: “We will meet at the gate - the locked entrance to the golf course - and then drive between the first and second tees.
“We will be leaving pretty promptly at 1.30pm and have to cram into as few cars as possible!
“The purpose behind it is to talk about bees, give people an insight into what is involved in looking after bees,” Jennifer added.
“We will look at equipment required, approximate costs involved, how much time is involved, What is involved in setting up a hive and apiary, and point out and discuss some problems and limitations.”
Contact can be made through email at speybeekeepersassociation@gmail.com and the booking will include a year’s subscription to the association, enabling bee lovers to attend further members open days and meet up with other beekeepers.
Participants will get to wear the kit and open a hive.
