Bear Grylls has an adventure in the Cairngorms
An Aviemore-based musher will be appearing on TV this evening (Tuesday) with one of the world’s best known adventurers.
Mr Alan Stewart turned down the offer of a Blue Peter badge – to film instead with Bear Grylls.
"And I don’t regret it for a minute!" said Mr Stewart after recording with Grylls.
The pair had just ridden a 12-dog rig more than 18 miles over the ice-bound Rothiemurchus Estate towards the end of last winter.
Now the results of their adventure will be screened tonight on ITV in ‘Britain’s Biggest Adventures with Bear Grylls’.
Mr Stewart told the ‘Strathy’: "It was great to be approached by the Bear Grylls team,
"I taught him to run a large sleddog team around our centres trails in one morning.
"He was very good and picked it up quickly. Bear linked up with my lead dogs great. He’s a good lad and we hope to work again with him soon "
Mr Stewart said that he also hopes the show will contribute to putting the area on the map and bring in visitors from the watching millions.
In the past, Mr Stewart has filmed with Sir David Attenborough, Griff Rhys Jones, Euro Disney, BBC, STV, but said this was by far their biggest TV filming project in 16 years in Aviemore.
The production team arrived for two days’ preparatory work, and had impressed with their expertise, especially with drones used to capture footage.
Mr Stewart said: "They would fly these things through the forest just a metre or so above the dogs.
"These guys have worked on the ‘Fast and Furious’ movie series and there simply aren’t any better exponents in the world."
As for the Blue Peter badge, he revealed he had to put off the Blue Peter team who had wanted to record around the same time as the famous daredevil.
