Ball is rolling for election of Cairngorms National Park Authority convener

Cairngorms National Park Authority members are being asked to agree the process for the election of board convener at their next meeting on Friday.

The deadline for nominations and seconds for the role has been set for June 11.

The board members then have until June 30 to cast their votes with the count and an announcement scheduled for July 2.

David Cameron, the CNPA's director of corporate services, states in papers going before the meeting: "The board agreed in finalising its standing orders that there should be a greater separation in time between the election of the convener and the expiry of the term of appointment of the current convener.

"The current term of appointment of the convener comes to an end on 30 September, with the new appointment commencing from 1 October.

"As such, notification is now given of the commencement of the convener election, with the member elected through this process taking up the role with effect from 1 October 2021."

Xander McDade is currently the CNPA's board convener after seeing off the challenge of former convener Peter Argyle at the last election.
