Badenoch a 'great place' for sheep

The "Badenoch Great Place Project" is nearing its climax after three glorious years and this weekend sees some more high points at the area's heritage festival.

"The Shepherd’s Tale" is being told on Friday at Tala nan Ros. It's an exploration of the sheep farming story here through novel, film, music and real life.

All will be welcome – if they book by Thursday night and arrive with face masks for wearing inside the hall, where they will join a local farmer, a novelist, a film-maker and a musician who will be sharing their tales.

The conversation includes Campbell & Sheena Slimon, Laggan shepherds and author of Stells, Stools & Strupag; Merryn Glover, whose new novel, Of Stone and Sky, is set in the strath, with the disappearance of a shepherd at its heart; film-maker Jill Brown, who will show and talk about her short 2010 film, The Blaragie Clippings; and Hamish Napier, who will thread the evening together with traditional music.

All the featured books, cds and dvds will be available for purchase on the night.

The event will take place in the popular King Street venue from 7.30 pm, with guests asked to arrive 10 mins early. Parking is roadside and there is disabled access to the hall. Pre-booking is essential.

Badenoch Heritage fans can keep up to date throughout the year by becoming members. It's free and application forms are available at https://badenochstorylands.com/about/
