Overnight road closures on the main road west from Badenoch will be put in place from Monday for four nights.

The A86 at Auchmore and Cluny, by Newtonmore, will need to be closed from 8pm through to 6am.

BEAR Scotland’s north west representative Eddie Ross explained that essential culvert replacement was needed.

"The new culverts will replace the existing ones which have started to break, causing some minor subsidence in the carriageway."

The replacements would ensure the drainage system under the road at both locations continued to operate safely and that the carriageway above the culverts remained structurally stable.

During the closure an alternative diversion route will be signposted via the A86, A889 and A9. Local access will be accommodated at times when it is safe to do so.

Emergency vehicles will be able to pass through the works at all times. The road will open as normal during the daytime.

Mr Ross said: "We do everything possible to minimise disruption when work is taking place but we have to replace the culverts across the full road width on this occasion and a road closure is required to do that.

"Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.

"We would ask drivers to pay attention to the traffic management measures and temporary signage in place during the work and to plan ahead as much as possible before starting their journey.

"It is always recommended to check the Traffic Scotland website and twitter account for the latest travel information."

Real time traffic information is available from Traffic Scotland at www.trafficscotland.org or twitter @trafficscotland.
