Badenoch goes waulking back to happiness
The strath is celebrating another notable success at the Royal National Mod after the latest performance of its record-breaking Badenoch Ladies Waulking Group.
The ladies, who first performed at the prestigious festival in 2007, have once again claimed the coveted Harris Tweed Authority Trophy.
"We really enjoyed ourselves," said leader Sheila MacKay, delighted on her fellow waulkers' behalf to have got their hands on the cup yet again, after going head to head with Lothian Gaelic Choir for the accolade.
Since 2007, Sheila confirmed, the women had won the trophy 11 times.
It may have been even more, but there was no competition in 2020 or 2021 due to Covid.
"Then again,11 out of 14 is not bad!" she told the Strathy.
The group formed in 1995 and are clearly keen to collect more titles, all of them hugely relieved that the dark days of the global pandemic appear to have been left behind at last.
Among other things, the ladies put in a superbly evocative performance during the smash-hit 'Outlander' series, having been filmed at work in Newtonmore's Highland Folk Museum.
