Newtonmore's story to be writ in stone

“Newtonmore Primary School have produced quality words,” says the team behind the project to install a fitting centrepiece to Newtonmore’s square.

“Now it’s up to others in the village.”

This week’s message is clear: Newtonmore Art Project needs YOU!

The team are looking for the public’s thoughts and ideas.

Said spokesperson Amanda Frazer: “The project team are looking for text which can be incorporated.”

A special “community words” workshop is to be staged on Tuesday, March 10.

“Anyone can attend the workshop which is being held in the Lesser Village Hall both during the afternoon, from 1.30 until three and also in the evening, from 6.30 to 8.30.”

Cairngorm National Park’s writer in residence, Merryn Glover, will provide inspiration and guidance.

And hot drinks – along with Dower House baking – will be on offer.

For those unable to attend either session, online submissions can be made, Amanda
explained: “Ideas can be shared by visiting newtonmore.com or on paper. A ‘text submission guidelines and ideas handout’ can be collected from the Post Office and on completion of the work any submission can be submitted back to the Post Office.”

The deadline is March 18.

“The team are looking forward to reading the poems, sayings, statements, lines of traditional songs or poems which use Gaelic, Scots, English or a combination.

“They are searching for a word, sentence, phrase that sums up an aspect of Newtonmore life which could be a memory, view, moment, person, feeling, place or anything!”
