A local MSP has welcomed an initiative to supply young footballers with new strips.

Dave Thompson, representative for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, was commenting on the news that McDonald’s UK, in partnership with the Scottish Football Association, is offering over 350 ‘quality mark’ clubs with a junior team the opportunity to order a brand new Adidas strip every year for the next four seasons.

The initiative is set to benefit kids under 12 and each club will be entitled to one strip.

Mr Thompson said: "I would like to welcome this fantastic initiative which will see junior clubs receive more than 4,500 strips across Scotland in the first year and thereby alleviate the financial burden that clubs face at the start of a new football season.

"I would like to encourage as many clubs in my own constituency of Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch to get involved when the ordering site opens again in early 2015."
