Badenoch MSP Kate Forbes takes oath in Gaelic at Scottish Parliament
Kate Forbes was officially sworn in as the constituency MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch at a socially-distanced oath and affirmation ceremony at the Scottish Parliament.
The 31-year-old took her oath in Gaelic as well as English on Thursday, in what will be her second term as MSP for the vast Highland constituency.
It follows her resounding victory at the recent Scottish Parliament elections, taking 56 per cent of the vote.
Ms Forbes MSP (SNP) said: “As a champion for Gaelic, I was proud to take my parliamentary vows in Gaelic, and I will continue to do what I can to promote the language in public life.
“It was obviously a very different experience from the last time I took the oath in 2016 – with the pandemic and also a government position – it’s fair to say quite a few things have changed since then.
“What hasn’t changed though, is my desire to work hard and get results for this constituency. I’ve already had several meetings over the past few days, and of course the emails never stop, so it’s very much carrying on from where I left off in March.”
