Forbes urges Highlanders to respond to government consultation on prostitution
Badenoch's MSP is urging Highlanders to respond to a new Scottish Government consultation which is seeking to challenge men’s demand for prostitution, work to reduce the harms associated with prostitution and support women to exit.
Kate Forbes said she believed it was an opportunity for people to show “the kind of Scotland we want to see, and how we value the women that often exist below the radar without support, care or protection”.
The Scottish Government has today (Friday) launched a consultation seeking views on the subject, with a deadline of December 10.
Ms Forbes said: “Prostitution has a profound impact on the individuals involved, with the reality of the industry being far-removed from portrayals in the media. The harm done to women, through violence, rape and addiction, must be recognised.
“That is why I am pleased to see Ash Denham, minister for community safety, launch this consultation.
“Change will require a cultural shift as much as anything else, and it is good to see strong cross-party support.
“I strongly encourage people to respond to this consultation and share their views.
