Badenoch and Strathspey’s MP opens up new constituency office in Elgin
Local MP Graham Leadbitter has today celebrated the opening of his constituency office although it will be quite a trek for constituents in the strath.
The launch of the office in Elgin at 9 Wards Road, was attended by local councillors, charities and third sector organisations from across his Moray West, Nairn and Strathspey constituency.
Badenoch and Strathspey was added in with Moray when the Westminster boundaries were redrawn having previously been aligned with part of Inverness when the seat was held by former MP Drew Hendry.
The opening marks the latest chapter in Mr Leadbitter’s term as the local MP which has already seen him and his staff respond to more than 3000 constituency cases and host several surgery tours across the constituency including in the strath.
He has also been involved in dozens of parliamentary debates including hosting two of his own; asked two questions to the Prime Minister in the chamber and attended hundreds of meetings in parliament and the constituency.
Mr Leadbitter MP said: “Whilst the constituency office has been used for a number of weeks already it’s great to have it marked with an official opening.
“The office will be regularly open to the public, and a centre for my surgeries here in Elgin.
“Today marks the opening of my physical constituency office but since July my team and I have helped and responded to over 3,000 local people on top of the regular parliamentary duties in Westminster.
“I look forward to continuing to stand up for local people, regardless of who they voted for in July, and serve this vibrant community.
“It’s an enormous privilege to have been elected to serve this constituency.”
Mr Lochhead MSP said: “Graham has hit the ground running since being elected and has been a fantastic champion for this area and local people.
“In the short time since his election he’s managed to help thousands of people, and has put himself at the forefront of the defence and support of local industries, particularly Scotch Whisky, ably standing up for investment and jobs here against the threats posed by the Westminster Labour government.
“I’m delighted his office has now opened and look forward to continuing to work alongside him to stand up for people in Moray.”
