Badenoch and Strathspey recycling centres open over the weekend
Recycling centres in the strath are to remain open over the Easter weekend giving holidaying householders an opportunity to get rid of waste in an eco-friendly way.
Highland Council is urging gardeners, DIY enthusiasts or people throwing a party to make use of the three centres.
They say most centres now have new signs, making it easier to identify which container to put items into, and their peratives are on hand to point members of the public in the right direction.
Aviemore Recycling Centre is open Monday to Saturday from 9am until 4pm, while Grantown on Spey and Kingussie recycling centres are open Saturdays and Sundays only from 9am until 3pm.
The council says 70 per cent of household waste can be recycled or composted, and while people can recycle Easter egg cardboard and Easter cards in their blue recycling bin, there are many more items that can be disposed of at the recycling centre.
A spokeswoman said: "Glass is very easy to recycle as it can be recycled over and over with no loss of quality so make sure you give your glass bottles and jars a new lease of life and the chance to be turned into something new.
"If you’re planning household DIY or a clear out, there are lots of items you can take to the recycling centre. Old wood or off-cuts and scrap metal can both be recycled, and limited amounts of rubble and soil can be recycled at Aviemore. Broken electrical items can also be recycled at Aviemore, which also has a container for unwanted household furniture in good condition.
"These items are used by Newstart Highland to provide practical help to individuals in the Highlands who have been without a home and are moving to their own tenancies, as well as those on low incomes."
Garden waste can go in a home compost bin, or brown bin or to to the recycling centre for composting – but only waste like cut grass, twigs and small branches, leaves, flowers, plants, hedge trimmings and weeds except Japanese knotweed.
