To salute the Bard from Laggan to Grantown
Badenoch and Strathspey will be cocking up its beaver next week as it enters the Burns Night season.
Saturday week, January 25 sees the official birthday of the great Scots bard and there will be plenty of salutation in Badenoch.
Tickets are still on sale for Newtonmore’s big party.
As Amanda Frazer told the Strathy: “The YES Badenoch and Strathspey Group will certainly be celebrating the poetic genius of Rabbie Burns.
“We’ll all be at Newtonmore Golf Club at 7 for 7.30pm.
“When everyone is seated there will be a welcome and introductions by Grant Frazer, Master of Ceremonies, followed by the Selkirk Grace by Rev Robert Brookes.
“Soup will be served, then the haggis is piped in with the chef.
“Grant will Address the Haggis and we’ll toast it with a dram.
“All the guests will savour haggis, neeps and tatties, then finishing off with trifle.
“The guests will be richly entertained with the Immortal Memory by Cameron McNeish.
“Andrew Wilson is to recite the timeless Tam o' Shanter and we’ll end our evening with a Burns Sing-a-long led by Grant Frazer and Morag Barr.”
A limited number of tickets are left but they can be secured at the PostBox in Kingussie or Newtonmore, or by phoning 07551 189580, Aviemore 01479 810 632 or Newtonmore at 07786 584 864
At Laggan, the Badenoch Shinty Memories Group will also be honouring the work of the great man in the village hall on the birthday night of January 25.
The night starts at 7pm and some tickets are still available by email to badenochshintymemories@g.mail.com or by calling 07517 467 517.
Grantown will be paying its birthday respects the following week, on February 1st, at the Royal British Legion Scotland Strathspey clubrooms from 7pm.
Tickets are available from the bar for a night which will see a traditional three-course supper with live music from Stuart Anderson and Lyall Kinnaird. Compering will be David Nisbet and Ewan MacGregor.
