Gales pick up across Highlands as storm warnings go from Yellow to Amber
As the warnings keep coming and the wind keeps building, Badenoch and Strathspey’s roads are being treated by the winter maintenance team this morning but the schools in both Grantown and Kingussie are closed for the day.
Both high schools, along with their primaries and nurseries, have yielded to the Met Office’s alerts which, across the wider area, have included both Amber and Yellow scares.
An Amber warning is in place for wind across the northern half of Scotland until 6am on Saturday.
A Yellow warning for snow is also in place, mainly across the high ground of Highlands.

This morning’s road conditions report for Badenoch and Strathspey, issued at 6.54, confirmed temperatures higher than forecast.
“Primary and Secondary routes being treated this morning as a precaution. No known overnight Issues.”
On the Nairn side, too, temperatures are higher than forecast.
“Hill routes being treated as a precaution. No known overnight issues.”
On neighbouring Inverness roads conditions are wet but with no major issues as yet.
