Cairngorm baby reindeer brings warm glow during chilly weather
Seven-month-old baby reindeer Svalbard, from the Cairngorm Reindeer Centre at Glenmore, is looking forward to his first Christmas.
Born in May to mum Arnish, Svalbard enjoyed a day out at Strathmashie Forest near Laggan.
It was only the second public event in which the calf had taken part with other reindeer from the centre.
"Svalbard is really sweet and relaxed – it takes a lot to faze him," said reindeer herder Fiona Smith.
She added: "I’m sure he will enjoy his first Christmas. He can expect a big handful of tasty lichen on the big day."
Laggan Forest Trust officer Iona Malcolm said that Svalbard had stolen the hearts of the 150 people attending their Christmas fair.
She said: "The children were captivated when Santa arrived by sleigh, drawn by four adult and two baby reindeer."
Helping Svalbard on the day were Dylan, Oryx, Uno, Ringo and Wallace.
