Strathspey waste centre is now open

Under a sunny blue sky, Aviemore’s household waste recycling centre re-opened this morning (Monday, June 1) at 9am.

It’s one of 14 in the region which had been closed for weeks in line with the coronavirus lockdown.

But Grantown and Kingussie will remain closed until there is sufficient staff to facilitate social distancing.

“A phased approach to re-opening the sites will be adopted,” a spokesperson said, “with strict controls in place.”

The sites are open for essential waste disposal only and householders are advised that journeys to a HWRC must only be undertaken if their waste cannot be stored at home safely.

Householders are urged to visit the council’s website before they travel to the sites to check it will be open as planned and to find out what restrictions are in place.
