Aviemore’s London Paralympic rowing gold medallist Dave Smith MBE an honorary ambassador for CairnGorm Mountain.

The first duty of the former GB bobsleigh team member and two times World champion rower will be to lead the parade of onesie-wearing skiers and boarders down the pistes on the resort’s ‘Onesie day’ on Saturday (March 23) when snowsports fans are being encouraged to don their one-piece outfits of all kinds for the day and gather outside the Ptarmigan restaurant at 12 noon for the descent of the mountain in one continuous line. The event is being sponsored by onesie manufacturer OnePiece.

Dave said: “I am looking forward to working with all the staff at CairnGorm in promoting the Mountain starting with Saturday’s fun event and also the summer guided mountain biking and walking activities. As an ambassador I will promote CairnGorm throughout my sporting trips in the future around the world and in UK.

“The challenge I have planned this year for cycling around the world is going to gather a huge amount of media coverage and I am currently talking with Events Scotland on how I can promote Scotland on a world level. The bike ride is going to pass through many ski resorts worldwide but on the Scottish section I am planning on cycling up the hill and, if there is snow, doing a skiing challenge, which will hopefully attract national media as it is the last stage of the bike ride.”

He added: “With CairnGorm being my home ski mountain this will be very special for me. Growing up skiing on CairnGorm with Cairngorm Ski Club was a foundation for what would lead on to my international sporting career in karate, bobsleigh and rowing and which resulted in a gold medal in London 2012 in rowing. CairnGorm Mountain has always been a place for me to escape the pressures of high performance sport whether walking in the summer or my main passion in life, skiing in the winter.”
