Aviemore taxi driver caught driving under influence of drugs next day in village

A taxi driver was caught driving under the influence of drugs the next day in Aviemore.

Phillipe Brooks (58) had been at a party on August 21, last year, where he had smoked and ingested cannabis.

The following day he decided to travel to the Tesco supermarket in Aviemore in his car which he operates as a taxi.

But he was stopped by police and was found to have 7.7 microgrammes (mg) of cannabis per litre of blood in his system when the legal limit is two mg.

Brooks, of Munro Place, Aviemore, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence.

Sheriff David Harvie at Inverness Sheriff Court deferred sentencing for background reports.

Brooks has been disqualified from driving meantime.

Defence solicitor Marc Dickson said: “He has lost his sole income because of this incident and his employment for the last 12-and-a-half-years.

“He’s lost his sole focus in life and a business he built up for a decade.”
