Art at Aviemore Laundry

"Do you use a wash?"

Some very pertinent questions were put by visitors to exhibitors at Aviemore's innovative Laundry Gallery on Friday (December 13) during its Christmas Drinks and Arts Retreats launch.

Kingussie artist Bob Kinnaird was pictured with hostess Kyla Ball as wine and advice were shared in equal measure by gallery owner Lee Bissett.

Several of her evocative new works were on show, alongside those of Mr Kinnaird and fellow contributors Katie Tunn and Sam Martin.

One guest was Highland Council convenor Councillor Bill Lobban who, with his wife Jennifer, thoroughly enjoyed the selection of work available.

"It's very good to have such an outlet for local artists in the middle of Aviemore," he agreed with fellow guests.

Lee Bissett told the Strathy that she was planning to do more than exhibit works in the gallery, as she fully intended to start using the first floor of the laundry for her own studio.

"It will be a bit messy," she said, "but I think it will be good to create work while members of the public move around the place. They will get a flavour of just what creating a painting is like – and just how messy it can get!"
