Polish children get their own Strathspey and Badenoch school
Polish children in the strath now have their own school to look forward to each week.
They gather on Sundays in a dedicated branch of the institution which has been established in Inverness.
After a very successful session on Sunday, Eva Bukszynska Secker explained the day had seen a very successful launch.
“We enjoyed an attendance of over 20 Polish children aged six to 12 years old from the Badenoch and Strathspey area.
“The school head teacher, Mrs Magda Krol and I welcomed the pupils and their parents.
“There are a couple of volunteers who act as classroom assistants.”
The Aviemore school is comfortably located in the building of the Church Hall at the village’s St. Aidan’s Catholic Church.
Classes will take place each Sunday between 2pm and 5pm.
Eva told the Strathy: “This is a great opportunity for children with Polish roots to meet, speak Polish and learn about Polish culture and history.
“It is also a great way to keep the Polish community together.”
A real bonus for the strath’s Polish community is that the school has been established just in time for this Sunday’s special national day.
“On Sunday we will be celebrating Polish Independence Day, which falls on November 11.”
The Polish Saturday School in the Highland capital is a charitable organisation.
It has been operating now for more than 15 years and has over a 100 students attending.
There are no fewer than seven teachers employed there.
All being well the Badenoch and Strathspey branch will prove just as enduring an institution for all those who need it.
