Pupils at Badenoch and Strathspey's largest primary school are enjoying an unexpected long weekend after the premises were hit by flooding.

The problem has also affected the operation of the community centre and sports facilities which are part of the same complex.

The school is expected to open as normal after the weekend.

A Highland Council spokesperson said: “The closure of Aviemore Primary School and Aviemore Community Centre was due to a water leak in the plant room which affected the main school corridor, sports hall store and loss of heating.

"A clear up and repairs are in hand.

“Aviemore Community Centre – which is managed by High Life Highland - re-opened at 10am this morning after a short closure - and the primary school will reopen on Monday.”
