An Aviemore playpark is reopening after being temporarily closed on safety grounds by Highland Council.

Part of Morlich Court play area in a residential area at the north end of the village were cordoned off yesterday because the main item of play equipment had been found to be unsafe..

The base of wooden supports for the large multi-play unit including a slide and climbing frame have started to rot.

It will remain fenced off the foreseeable future.

A council spokesperson said yesterday that the rest of the park will be re-opened with the safety measure remaining in place.

He said: “The council hopes to implement repairs to the equipment, weather-permitting in the coming weeks. Meantime the play item will be fenced off until further notice.”

It is understood that wood chips used at the base of the playframe have turned to mulch and accelerated rotting of the timber uprights on the play equipment.
