Strathspey’s ace piper joins Bryan Adams on Eden Court stage
Fancy getting a call out of the blue from Bryan Adams saying: ‘Can you come out and play?’ Well if you’re Aviemore legend Spud the Piper, that’s just what happens!
It happened last night, he says, at Inverness’ Eden Court Theatre.
“I got a call from an Ottawa Canada number in the afternoon and, yes, it was the legend that was Bryan Adams. He wanted me to play on a number of his…”
Sure enough Spud - otherwise Calum Fraser - went up and joined the legendary rocker for a quick practice of ‘Cuts like a knife’.
He’s played for the stars before but usually as Scotland’s premier wedding piper. He was a wow at one of Madonna’s weddings!
“But this was all out of the blue,” he told the Strathy. “I had no idea that was gonna happen.
“He just sang the bit to me and asked could I play it.
“Then he then played it on his guitar and asked me to play it on my pipes so I did and he said ‘You got it!’ and walked out the door…
“I was like - ooooft!!”
Spud needn’t have worried. It was an instant hit with the packed house.
