An Aviemore pensioner who has been left in crippling pain after having an urgent hip operation cancelled three times in six months has now got a surgery date.

Eighty-year-old Christine Smith will have the first of her two hips replaced on Monday (September 18) at Inverness’ Raigmore Hospital – just five days after the last of her cancelled op dates had been scheduled.

Last week her family went public in the Strathy with their concerns over the delay and the impact this was having on Mrs Smith well-being both physically and mentally.

Daughter Jackie Convery said: “Since the involvement of the Strathy, mum has been offered a new date for her promised hip operation surgery.

“Obviously the family is delighted and we hope that this will put an end to her crippling pain.

“We have our fingers crossed that this one doesn’t get cancelled.

“The family greatly appreciate the support of our local paper and Badenoch MSP Kate Forbes.

“We hope that by going public we may help others who may be in a similar situation.”
