There are hopes that long-running disruption at a busy Aviemore junction could come to an end some time next week.

After nearly a year of re-development at the traffic hotspot, traffic lights are expected to be installed as the last stage of the works at the junction of Grampian Road and Dalfaber Drive.

The initial completion date for the junction upgrade was midsummer, last year.

The upgrade was detailed in summer 2021 as part of the improved access to the Badenoch and Strathspey Community Hospital in Dalfaber, with backers saying it was identified as a priority as part of the Active Aviemore consultation.

The project is being taken forward by Highland Council and Sustrans.

A local authority spokeswoman said: "There are still signals works to be completed on site which we are hoping can be completed next week.

"However officers are still waiting for confirmation from the signals contractors about when exactly they can attend."

There were tailbacks of nearly 30 minutes in the village last summer before project leaders postponed the rest of the work.

The redesign of the junction has been hit by delay on and off since then, causing continuing frustration to local road users.
