Aviemore Ice Rink's night visitors

Intruders were skating on thin ice last night at Aviemore, according to rink operators.

"Sadly our ice rink was broken into on the early hours of Sunday morning," reported a spokesperson for the Aviemore and Glenmore Community Trust.

Images of the visitors have also been posted, some of them clearly identifiable.

"We're sure they must be feeling very sore right now after repeatedly falling on the ice.

"We have CCTV footage of the whole event and the police are investigating."

The Strathy has asked the police for the latest information on the incident.

The rink operators confirmed: "Attempting to access our ice rink out of hours is illegal and caused our staff and volunteers a lot of distress and wasted time.

"It is dangerous and these people were lucky not to come away with serious injury. This has caused us to spend hard earned time and money on more security and insurance instead of trying to develop the rink and develop sport in Aviemore.

"We have a zero tolerance approach to this, if anybody is found in the rink out of hours they will be banned for life and information passed to the police."

This evening the trust's Duncan Swarbrick explained: "There was a gap created in the fence which has been fixed but nothing appears to have been stolen.

"The main concerns are health and safety and insurance, which is expensive particularly because we’re in our first year. There is electrical and refrigeration plant at the back which is not to be accessed by the public, we can’t have anyone drunk on the ice, and staff with first aid training should be there whenever it is being accessed. Thankfully no one was hurt.

"I’m sure they meant no harm, but selfish acts like this divert staff time and money away from delivering the outcomes for the community."
