Aviemore High Life community meeting postponed
A meeting between Aviemore Community Council and Macdonald Aviemore Resort due to take place today (Monday) has been postponed, it has been emerged.
Senior managers at the resort, Highland Council and HighLife Highland are still to meet the same day for detailed talks to resolve the dispute about discounted community access to the resort’s facilities.
Local Badenoch MSP Dave Thompson (SNP), who has been an intermediatory, has just revealed that the community meeting has been cancelled.
Nonetheless he said he was pleased that events had moved on from earlier statements that no deal was possible between the resort’s owner and the arms-length local authority body tasked with providing leisure services.
Membership of the current High Life scheme allows local residents to benefit from access to the swimming pool at the Aviemore resort for no charge beyond their inexpensive High Life membership fee.
Mr Thompson said: "Like many others, I was shocked to learn that inexpensive swimming provision in Aviemore for Highland residents was to end shortly.
"I immediately set about trying to bring together the parties involved in this decision to get them talking about how this might continue.
"My aim has only ever been to get them talking so I am absolutely delighted that we are at a stage now where they are able to have serious commercial discussions."
On the meeting for Monday afternoon being postponed, Mr Thompson said: "This meeting will now be held at a later date. My understanding is that both parties hope to reach a conclusion and then report this back to the community.
"I am glad things are now moving again and that we can look forward to a better decision on the provision of High Life facilities for the Aviemore area."
