Aviemore elderly being targeted by anti-social youngsters
Police in Aviemore are focussing on the targeting of vulnerable elderly residents in one corner of the village.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland told the Strathy today (Friday October 21) of an emerging trend in the area of Burnside Street and Railway Terrace.
“A small group of youths are throwing stones at windows and causing elderly residents alarm by knocking on their doors during the dark evenings.
“The mobility of some of the residents is limited and constantly answering the door not only causes alarm but could cause them to trip of fall on the way to the door.”
Police Constable Thewlis said: “This is particularly frightening for elderly residents during the dark nights and causes them physical challenges getting to the door to see who is knocking.
“We know this is a small group and is not reflective of the general conduct of most of our young persons but they are having a significant impact on the victims.
“If this was your granny or grandpa how would you feel?
“The local teams are patrolling the areas but I ask that parents take few moments to ask their children if they know anything about this emerging problem and if they know who the persons responsible are.
“We are keen to speak with one particular individual who is described as a young male about 12 years of age with light or blonde hair who is regularly in the Burnside Street area of Aviemore."
