“The only orange in the sky we want to see over Badenoch and Strathspey is a sunset!”
Aviemore Community Fire Station is urging the strath to be ready for a hot and potentially hectic weekend - and have issued their own photographs of just what they do not want to see.
“The sun’s out, but let’s not set the Highlands on fire (again)!” the brigade have posted as the weather forecast grows ominous.
“The temperature in Aviemore is set to soar into the high 20s - maybe even hitting 30°C by Saturday - bringing an EXTREMELY high risk of wildfire.
“Help us keep Aviemore and the Cairngorms National Park safe for everyone!”
The appeal comes with some serious advice for anyone planning to visit the national park over the new heatwave:
If you’re visiting the area this week:
DON’T light fires – including campfires and disposable BBQs.
Take all your litter home - glass and rubbish can start fires.
Stub it out and dispose of cigarettes carefully.
Report any sign of fire immediately by dialling 999 and asking for the fire service.
“Share this with anyone heading to the area.
“Let’s enjoy the sunshine without burning down the scenery. The only orange in the sky we want to see is a sunset.”
The strath’s resident weather expert, Lee Schofield at his Carrbridge-based Highlands and Islands Weather, told the Strathy that he endorsed the brigade’s forecast.
