It's always the same – you wait for ages then two buses come along at the same time.

That is exactly what has happened for Aviemore-based charity Badenoch & Strathspey Community ConnXion (BSCX) and its organisers could not be happier.

"We are delighted to have taken delivery of two new vehicles: a 12-seater minibus and seven-seater people carrier," said BSCX chief executive Sandra Veitch.

"This is all thanks to Motability who not only fully funded both vehicles but provided additional funds for a driver, increasing our capacity to deliver Where2Today services.

"Motability’s policy is to support people with disabilities to achieve greater independence through access to affordable, worry-free mobility – which is what BSCX’s Where2Today service is all about.

"As well as adding new routes and services, we are happy for other local organisations to hire our vehicles with or without a driver at a reasonable cost.

"Funding has been difficult to attain this year particularly from Scottish Government who say there is not enough to go around.

"This is reflected in two unsuccessful applications to keep our wider services operational, including missing out on Social Isolation and Loneliness Funding.

"Being able to replace two of our older vehicles without any outlay has therefore been of great benefit as we continue to look at alternative funding opportunities to maintain our social events and outings, as well as our valued befriending service.

"We are also looking for new volunteers in the community to support our events and services, from helping with shopping trips to giving lifts as part of our car scheme."

Anyone who would like to find out more about what BSCX offers or wanting to become a volunteer can contact BSCX via www.bscx.co.uk where donations can also be made or call 01479 810004.

Any organisations wishing to find out more about hiring one of the new minibuses can contact the charity on the same number.
