Autumn date for distillery plans
PLANS for a new whisky distillery near to Grantown have reached another milestone.
Proposals by Speymalt Whisky Distributors Ltd, who trade as Gordon & MacPhail, for the development at Craggan went before Cairngorms National Park's planning committee members for the first time on Friday.
David Berry, CNPA planning manager, said after the meeting at Boat of Garten Community Hall: "The committee was asked to note that pre-application discussions have commenced following the submission of a Proposal of Application Notification (PAN) for a new distillery and visitor facilities to the south-west of the Craggan Outdoors complex.
"Officers from the Highland Council and the Cairngorms National Park Authority have met with the prospective applicant's team and given them advice on the issues that would need to be addressed if they submit a formal planning application for this development in the future."
The PAN summarises the proposal and outlines how the firm intends to consult with the local community and other key stakeholders.
The public consultation on the major development is now likely to be held either in late October or November.
