Big-hearted souls in the Aviemore area who are interested in hearing about local volunteering opportunities to come along to a Guide Dogs information event at St Andrews Church Hall today (Monday) from 12 noon to 2.30pm.

Alis Atagan, Supporter Group Development Manager, says: "The lifetime cost of a guide dog from birth to retirement is nearly £50,000 and we currently have 4,500 guide dog partnerships in the UK but Guide Dogs receive no government or statutory funding.

"We rely entirely on the generosity of the public to provide a service that makes a massive difference to the lives of blind and partially sighted people."

Volunteering with your local Guide Dogs branch means you'll join a friendly team and meet new people.

Most importantly, by giving a little bit of your time, you'll be making a positive difference in people's lives by helping Guide Dogs enable blind and partially sighted people to enjoy the same freedom of movement as everyone else.

If you would like to volunteer with Guide Dogs, please call 0845 371 7771 or email: volunteer@guidedogs.org.uk. You can also contact Alis direct for an informal chat by phoning 07825202180 and to confirm your attendance. Anyone wanting to get an idea of the charity's work, and the work currently undertaken by volunteers, should go to the website: www.guidedogs.org.uk
