All eyes have been on Badenoch and Strathspey skies with army attack helicopters apparently on an exercise, although no official word has come yet from the forces.

It’s understood the Apaches are based currently at Lossiemouth but for a couple of days they have been circling the area, with shoppers in Aviemore buzzing after the first fairly low flight over them.

Today there have been sightings in Glenfeshie around the Cairngorm Gliding Club base.

One observer told the Strathy: “We don’t know if it’s a link but there are army trucks there as well. It’s all very impressive but we assume it’s a training exercise.

“We’ve certainly not seen any sign of ‘the enemy’, I’m glad to say.

“Apart from that distinctive rotary sound of these magnificent beasts it’s all been pretty quiet otherwise.”

We hope to have more info on the manoeuvres in due course.
