It's the coolest five grand for Carrbridge's polar hero
Strathspey's solo polar trekker Ben Weber is celebrating another milestone – two months after making it to the South Pole on his own.
"It’s just a little bit more than a couple of months since I got to the Pole," he said last night.
"It still feels like yesterday and despite the continued neck pain, and the massively intense nature of the journey, I miss it there and I miss that challenge!"
The 41-year-old former compliance consultant, who was moved to take on his gruelling 700-mile, 58-day challenge to raise funds for cancer relief after the tragic death of his mother, said: "It’s coming up the equinox already and it’s strange thinking that after the 24hours of sunlight a day I had while there, the continent is now plunging into darkness!"
At the outset of his trek, which began in November, he set himself a £5000 target.
"I checked out the Just Giving page for the Cancer Research UK fundraiser earlier, and I was really delighted to see that I managed to raise just over my goal of £5,000!
"With the fundraiser on Facebook, a total of over £5,200 was raised.
"I'm really very happy and offer a big thank you to everyone who donated and who shared about the expedition – and those who helped contribute to this. It's really amazing generosity. Thank you all so much!"
