Badenoch and Strathspey MP and Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander has agreed to take part in a debate with First Minister Alex Salmond on live radio.

Mr Alexander, in Glasgow to launch the next Scotland Analysis Paper on Europe, was asked by journalists whether he would debate the SNP leader on whether Scotland should separate from the UK.

He said“Any time, any place, anywhere. If Alex Salmond would accept your invitation I certainly would, yes.”

A spokeman for the local MP said: "Mr Salmond has repeatedly challenged David Cameron to a debate, but seems less keen to debate a Scot on the issues."
