The strath’s man in Westminster has praised the constituency’s “resilience” to the hard times it has faced, while welcoming the latest jobs boost.

Unemployment in Danny Alexander’s Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey constituency has dropped again this quarter to 750 - 631 fewer than in June 2013 and 91 fewer than in May 2014.

The figure represents a very low 1.4% of the economically active population (Scotland avg. 6.9%, UK avg. 6.5%).

The area has the 547th lowest unemployment of the 650 UK seats.

National statistics released today (Wednesday) show more people in work across the UK than ever before with almost 700,000 more people in employment than this time last year, while unemployment is at the lowest rate for eight years.

Highland MP and Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander, said: "The Highlands has been hugely resilient through these tough times, our very low unemployment rates are testament to that.

"The latest unemployment figures, that continue to drop month by month, are some of the strongest evidence yet that we are embedding the recovery across the country. We have record numbers in work and unemployment falling at the fastest rate in over a decade.

"There is still a great deal more to do, but today's good news shows solid progress. We are building the stronger economy in a fairer society that Liberal Democrats entered government to deliver.”
