Last night’s flare-up on the Dava road was a stark reminder of how dangerous the situation is in the strath after the driest spring since the beginning of the century.

Within days of firefighters officially leaving the area after the worst wildfires Carrbridge-Knockando had ever seen they were being called out again yesterday afternoon as winds stirred the embers.

For now the authorities say the area is under control once more, although estate workers and farmers will be keeping a close eye on all corners.

Police Scotland this morning declared that the A940 between Dava and Tomdow had reopened

“Road users are thanked for their patience.”
