The A940 is closed at Dava following a wildfire in the area, with the ground barely smoke free after last week’s epic infernos.

Police Scotland have advised: “The A940 is closed between Dava and Tomdow following a wildfire in the area reported to police around 7pm on Wednesday, 9 July.

”Road users are asked to avoid the area and not to ignore road closures.”

A spokesperson at the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service told the Strathy: “The call out came at 17.29 today.

“There are four appliances on the scene.”

Grantown sent two and there is one each from Forres and Nairn. It’s understood that a bowser and welfare unit was also sent from Dingwall.

“They have joined forces with local estate workers to damp down area.”
