A9 at Slochd Summit still closed after serious road accident
The A9 remains closed both northbound and southbound after a serious crash late this morning on the A9 at the Slochd.
Traffic Scotland is advising road users to seek an alternative route and to expect delays.
Details of the crash itself are still unclear but observers have confirmed that two vehicles were involved.
One lorry driver Trevor Rossington caught up behind the accident told the Strathy: "A traffic cop has just told me the road is going to be closed for another five to six hours.
"We have seen a lot of activity with helicopters from both Aberdeen and Glasgow airlifting casualties."
Diversions are being suggested: northbound for northbound traffic, turn right onto the A938 offslip and continue to A938/B9153 junction – turn left onto the A938 and continue to Dulnain Bridge and the A938/A95 junction, then tur left onto the A95 and continue to Grantown at the A95/A939 roundabout.
Take the first exit and continue on the A939 to A939/A940 junction – turn left onto the A939 and continue to the A939/A96 junction before turning left onto Forres Road and continuing on the A96 to Inverness. Distance 65 miles.
Southbound for southbound traffic, turn around at Tomatin and continue northbound on the A9 to Raigmore Interchange – take the offslip to Raigmore interchange and take the third exit onto the A96 and continue to Nairn, then turn right onto the A939 and continue to the A939/A940 junction.
Turn right onto the A939 and continue to Grantown – at the A939/A95 roundabout take the third exit and continue to Dulnain Bridge; turn right onto the A938 and thereafter follow permanent signing.
