A9 roadworks due to start at the Slochd
Motorists using the A9 south of the Slochd are being warned to expect roadworks and a convoy system from the end of this weekend.
Resurfacing works are due to begin on Sunday close to the rocky outcrop known as the ‘German Soldier’s Head’.
The £380,000 investment from Transport Scotland will see works carried out on a 1.2km section of the single carriageway of the A9 over the course of six nights.
To keep disruption to a minimum the improvements will be carried out between 7pm and 7am each night from Sunday nights to Friday mornings.
No works are planned to take place on Friday or Saturday nights.
Temporary traffic lights and a 10mph convoy system will be in use while the works are carried out to ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as motorists.
This will be removed during the daytime however a reduced speed limit of 30mph will remain in place as traffic will be running on a temporary surface.
Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said: "These essential resurfacing works will give a much improved road surface and create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.
"To minimise disruption to road users we are carrying out the resurfacing at night and avoiding working on the busier Friday or Saturday nights.
"We’d encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information and leaving a little extra time to reach their destination."
