A9 reopens after seven vehicle accident near Dalwhinnie
The A9 Inverness-Perth road has re-opened in both directions following the earlier road traffic accident involving seven vehicles by Dalwhinnie.
A Northern Constabulary spokesman said: "The lorry remains at the scene and police are directing vehicles safely around it until it can be removed.
"This could result in slow moving traffic and drivers are urged to remain patient.
"Although the road is open driving conditions are poor with surface water and snow affecting the area. Drivers are urged to exercise caution if travelling in the area."
The road was reopened at around 8pm. The accident occurred at 12.50pm in snow and high winds and involved three cars and a van as well as the lorries.
One person was taken to hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.
The road was closed to allow the recovery of the vehicles involved.
Local freelance photographer Andrew Smith walked in to the crash scene in the atrocious weather to get the first photographs of the accident including the picture above.
He said: "The weather was brutal. Sleet was in my face the whole time. Even the police were saying they were drenched under their waterproofs."
