Closed for hours today after a three-vehicle accident just north of Kingussie, the A9 is now open once more.

Traffic Scotland confirmed at 9.02pm:

“CLEAR: #A9 Kingussie incident now over and the road has reopened.”

Full details of the incident are yet to emerge and there has been no confirmation of any casualties, although an air ambulance was called to the scene this afternoon.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service despatched crews from as far off as Pitlochry as back-up for the three local appliances, which were sent from Aviemore and Kingussie along with a community response unit from Carrbridge.

While the A9 was closed traffic crawled for hours through the Badenoch capital, where only this morning the High Street had been saturated with bollards on both sides in preparation for road works.

All afternoon motorists were advised to avoid the area altogether or at the very least approach with caution and with patience.

More information on the crash when it has been confirmed.
